Solar Energy Equipment

Solar energy is easier to have than most people think. Often people fear that massive amounts of equipment need to be purchased. A solar system however needs only a few components for a homeowner to start going green.

The most critical piece of solar energy equipment is the solar panels. The number of solar panels needed will depend on the amount of energy the household uses and the amount of sunlight the home gets a day. An alternative to solar panels are photovoltaic shingles on the roof of the home.

The panels will need a mounting structure and wiring to connect them. The next piece of equipment is the controller- this is the “brain” of the solar system and directs the electricity to the appropriate places. A secondary storage system composed of batteries can also be used for those looking to go completely off the power grid. An inverter will also be needed on all systems to convert the DC power generated by the panels to AC power used by the home.
